Ever evolving, Puja Miri Yajnik, who began her journey with articles of general interest, short stories, and novels, has now taken her literary talents to a new, virtual height. Instagram story-readings are a novel concept, and the writer brings her literature over to social media in a special way. “As the times change, so must the artist,” she says. Her new series of short story readings is aptly named ‘World Story Land’ and has cemented a new place for her work on a new platform. These videos on IGTV or ‘Instagram TV’ are a contemporary ‘page-turner’, so to speak. The short stories, written by Yajnik, are read out by a collection of people from all over the world. “Actors, non-actors, all age groups, all nationalities; the readings are open to all those who share a love for storytelling,” she states. Amongst the readers, she makes it a point to include talented young actors from across the globe. This makes the narrative even more exciting, adding an element of professionalism. “I am fortunate to include amongst my readers some very talented actors. I hope to bring their talent into the limelight, albeit on my own, small platform,” she adds.
The stories themselves are all of different genres and each is around 10 minutes long. As she has travelled widely, having lived in and explored many countries, she is keen to bring in her experiences and merge together different worlds with the narrative of these tales. “I think it is very important to bring people together at this time especially, as we are all going through a terribly challenging moment in human history,” she says. The episodes are fun and intriguing, the first focusing on the horror genre, complete with spine-chilling sound effects and a captivating atmosphere. We particularly enjoyed the second episode, as it is set in today’s times, dealing with this new predicament of social distancing, and fighting for groceries and essentials, all told skillfully and in good humor. Whether you wish to unwind with a cup of tea and an evening story, or if you need to distract the kids with a bedtime story (we recommend Episode 3 for this purpose), or even if you are a teenager looking for a source of entertainment, these stories are for everyone.
