Designer Tanieya Khanuja, known for engineered clothing and fine craftsmanship in women’s western wear, unveiled her A/W 19 Luxury pret-a-couture collection at her new store in Defence Colony.
Showcased at Paris Fashion Week earlier this year, the collection is a beautiful amalgamation of fabrics, textured techniques, surface ornamentation and structured silhouettes.
The collection is designed for a destination wedding of a modern bride. It comprises flowy gowns with elaborate structured ruffles for a bolder look, just apt for an engagement or reception, sequence metallic gowns for a glamourous cocktail party, and an array of stylish silhouettes for trousseau. In her collection, she has played with different techniques on different fabrics thus lending each garment a unique look. The colour palette includes both, strong and soft colours as well as metallics and whites for winter. From deep greens, reds and blues to blush pinks, peach, white and metallics, she has chosen different shades for different occasions. The fabrics used are organzas, taffeta, mesh, crepes and textured fabrics.
“There’s a void in the Luxury Pret market in India. I am focussing on filling that void and creating silhouettes which a modern Indian woman would love to wear,” says Tanieya. She believes in creating styles and silhouettes which clients can sustain for years, can restyle and reuse them. “Label Tanieya Khanuja is not a fast fashion brand, it’s a brand which you can treasure for years”, says the designer.
Also noteworthy is her design sensibility in understanding different body types which is quite evident from statement pieces being created for the conservative and not so slim women. “You don’t have to be a size zero to make a statement and be a head turner. In fact, I love to design for women who are confident in their skin and carry themselves with panache and style”, adds Tanieya.
