Punjabi Film Viyah Kartare Da, Starring Gippy Grewal and Nimrat Khaira, Set for a Grand Release on Feb 27

New Delhi: The press conference of the much-awaited Punjabi film Viyah Kartare Da was recently held at PVR Cinema in the capital. Lead actors Gippy Grewal and Nimrat Khaira attended the event and interacted with the media, sharing interesting insights about the film.

Speaking about the project, Gippy Grewal described the film as a wholesome family comedy directed by Sameer Kang. The story revolves around a young man who wishes to marry the girl of his choice, but faces opposition from his family. On the other hand, the girl is hesitant to marry him due to his unemployment. The narrative unfolds through a series of humorous situations that promise to leave audiences in splits.

When asked about playing a police officer in the film and whether it would impact the image of the Punjab Police, Gippy responded confidently that audiences would feel proud after watching the film and would see that the character enhances the dignity of the force.

During the interaction, Nimrat Khaira was asked if she would consider marrying someone like Kartare in real life. She laughingly declined, saying she would not marry such a person. On being asked what causes more stress in Punjabi weddings—budget or relatives—she humorously replied that managing relatives is far more challenging, as there is always at least one displeased family member at every wedding. She added that in real life, she would prefer a partner who is loving and caring.

Talking about the current state of Punjabi cinema, Gippy Grewal shared that the industry has grown tremendously over the years. He recalled the early days of his film Carry On Jatta, when resources were limited and promotion was a challenge. Today, Punjabi cinema is expanding globally and reaching audiences across India. He also mentioned that efforts are being made to broaden the reach of Punjabi films in collaboration with Dharma Productions. According to him, Punjabi cinema stands out as one of the few industries offering clean, family-friendly entertainment.

Apart from Gippy Grewal and Nimrat Khaira, the film also stars Prince Kanwaljit Singh, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Deep Sehgal, B.N. Sharma, Hardeep Gill, Inamul Haq and Rupinder Rupi in key roles.

Produced by Dharma Productions, Humble Motion Pictures FZCO and Pitara Talkies, this entertaining Punjabi comedy is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on 27 February 2026.
