Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Addresses Ramlila Committees at Parliament House

A delegation representing various Ramlila committees from Delhi, under the leadership of the Shri Ramlila Mahasangh, met Lok Sabha Speaker at Parliament House on Sunday. The meeting highlighted the cultural significance of Ramlila and discussed measures to support and preserve this age-old tradition.

The delegation was led by Mahasangh President Arjun Kumar, who emphasized that Ramlilas have been an integral part of Delhi’s cultural heritage for centuries. He urged that all government agencies, including the Delhi Development Authority, should provide free grounds for organizing Ramlilas and extend support such as free electricity.

On the occasion, the Mahasangh honored the Lok Sabha Speaker by presenting him with a ceremonial mace (gada) and a copy of the Ramayana. Representatives were also given an opportunity to visit and observe the proceedings of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

The meeting, initiated by the Lok Sabha Speaker, saw participation from representatives of Ramlila committees from across the country. Member of Parliament from Chandni Chowk, , was also present at the gathering.

Addressing the delegates, Om Birla stated that Ramlila is not merely a cultural event but a living symbol of India’s Sanatan traditions, moral values, and social consciousness. He emphasized that for centuries, Ramlila has played a vital role in promoting ideals such as duty, sacrifice, service, and patriotism, and that preserving this tradition is a collective responsibility.

He further noted that Ramlila committees across the country are strong carriers of India’s cultural and folk heritage, contributing significantly to passing on the values and ideals of Lord Ram from generation to generation. In the modern era, he stressed the need to integrate innovation, technology, and public participation to connect younger generations with these traditions.

Birla also highlighted that Ramlila serves as a powerful medium for strengthening social harmony, national unity, and cultural awareness by bringing together people from diverse backgrounds on a common platform.

During the interaction, representatives of various committees shared their experiences and suggestions regarding the preservation, promotion, and expansion of Ramlila.

Speaking on the occasion, MP Praveen Khandelwal described Ramlila as a “living celebration of India’s cultural soul,” adding that it reflects the nation’s civilizational values and collective identity. He appreciated the initiative of the Lok Sabha Speaker in inviting Ramlila committees to Parliament, calling it a strong indication of commitment toward safeguarding India’s cultural heritage.

Khandelwal expressed confidence that under Birla’s guidance, Ramlila committees across the country would receive renewed direction and energy, ensuring that this glorious tradition continues to flourish for future generations.
