“Whether or not we should play with a terrorist country like Pakistan in international events ” was the question floating in the Indian media since last two weeks. Even the Indian citizens at large were in two minds on this issue. Many Indians believed that India is not playing to Pakistan in any bilateral events so if we play with them in multi country events its fine, moreover not playing and boycotting them will cost India’s chances in the tournaments and Pakistan will gain undue points.
The other Indians felt that its better to loose some points in the group stage if we are able to give a strong message to the world that we are boycotting a nation which produces harbors Islamic terrorists.
With these discussions going on in the main stream media and social media the government of refused to intervene, put the onus on the respective sporting federations and they were asked to decide if they want the teams to play against Pakistan or not. The Board of cricket control in India and the Hockey India both decided that the Indian national team will participate in the ongoing tournaments and teams will play Pakistan too.
Remember the Indian cricket team was to participate in the champions trophy where India and Pakistan were in the same group. So one match was anyway fixed between them in the group stage, But fortunately or unfortunately rather both the teams meat in the final match also.
The Indian Hockey team was participating in Hockey world league. Both the teams were playing Pakistan on June 18th, The cricket team was playing for the title while Hockey team was playing a group encounter.
Now its important for us to know what happened during the match and just before the match which forced me to write this article. The cricket team of BCCI and of the terror exporter country Pakistan stood up for a silence of one minute to mourn the demise of humans in different natural calamities in Sri lanka, Bangladesh and different deaths due to Islamic terrorists in Manchester,London etc.
A day before the match five policemen of Jammu and Kashmir were killed in a terror strike by Islamic terrorists and in recent pasts there has been many attacks on our security forces ,our civilians by Pakistan sponsored Islamic terrorists. While the two cricket teams were mourning the deaths of innocent human beings there was no mention of Indian lives lost due to Islamic terror.
Those who follow cricket know that the BCCI is one of the strongest cricket boards and nothing of this sort can happen if the BCCI and the cricket team of BCCI choose to oppose. Even if ICC did it, there were no reports of displeasure shown by officials of Indian cricket team or BCCI for that matter.
On the contrary the Indian Hockey team wore black arm bands condemning the recent terror attacks on our security forces by the Islamic terrorists and the Islamic Army of Pakistan across the LOC.

While the cricket team of BCCI faced a humiliating defeat at the hands Islamist players of Pakistan the Indian hockey team thrashed them with a score line of 7-1. This is not the first time that Indian hockey team had made such strong statements off the field. India’s usual keeper but currently injured PR Sreejesh had dedicated the team’s 2016 Champions Trophy title to the soldiers. There India had beaten Pakistan in the final. But none of us have seen any player from the playing cricket team taking stand on Indian lives lost in terror attacks.
Its common belief in India that most of Indian cricketers are motivated by money and always refuse to take stand on issues of national defence just to appease their followers in Bollywood and ad industry which gives them entry in the cocktail circuit and of course brand endorsement. With a such a behaviour I must say the its good that the team of BCCI lost. I hope in future they will correct themselves and won’t go against the mood of the nation.
