Physical infrastructure is being revamped to make train travel a convenient and comfortable experience for the passengers.
New Delhi railway station is one of the most significant stations in the Railways network and it has gotten an airport-like makeover.
From escalators to LED lighting, passengers will now enjoy Airport like facilities at the New Delhi Railway station.

The station has been revamped with beautiful wall paintings. Lifts and escalators have been installed for passenger convenience.
LCD panels with information give the station a modern look. Solar panels have been installed for electricity production.
Platform ceiling has been revamped as well. Waiting rooms have been upgraded in the station and passengers will also enjoy better food services at the station. Water vending machines have also been installed in the station which will provide filtered water to the passengers at a nominal price.
It may be noted that Railways is planning to add over 2,500 escalators and 1,000 lifts at railway stations. More foot-over-bridges are also being constructed for passengers’ convenience. Retiring rooms with modern facilities and amenities are also being set up at all major stations. Passengers can book there retiring rooms online through railways website.
Aside from the things mentioned above, Railways is also working to have baby feeding booths at stations to ensure the privacy of lactating mothers. A private baby feeding space has been set up in 100 waiting rooms across the country. For women passengers’ comfort, Railways has also started installing sanitary napkin vending machines in trains and railway stations.
Over 108 sanitary napkin vending machines were installed in about 80 trains last year. These machines provide sanitary napkins at a nominal price. Water vending machines are also being installed at stations. Passengers can get pure filtered water at an affordable price from these machines.
