Journey to be a Designer

The Millennials & Gen Z, choose to pursue their career paths, at an early age than the previous generations. The traditional path of medicine/engineering/law/accounting have lost their charm, newfound careers in creative courses have emerged. Unlike earlier days, the prejudices against becoming a designer originating from the fear of a secure future has changed.

The prestigious colleges in Art, Architecture, Design & Fashion conducts competitive admission tests in multiple stages. In India, each college conducts separate exams. The lack of single, common entrance exam, for all design colleges is a challenge. It is difficult for students to juggle the dates & applications of so many different design college exams. afdindia, the oldest design exam coaching institute has helped over 10,000 students to prepare for these exams and obtain seats in premier colleges. Over the past two decades, afdindia has been preparing students for NIFT, NID, CEED, UCEED & NATA exams.

afdindia has specially designed and customised courses for the students to help them get admissions to premier institutions across India. In this article, the alumni of afdindia will share their journey:

I always wanted to study in India’s premier college for design and it was like a dream come true when I got admission in NID. The exposure that NID give you is great. Students from across India are in my class. This multi-cultural environment makes each of us into a innovator. afdindia had played a great role in my success. I had enrolled for afdindia’s six-month, regular program in 2017, which helped me in improving my analytical, visualization, observation, imaginative & conceptualization skills.

The study materials prepared by afdindia’s faculties were helpful. The mock tests helped in improving my time management ability during the exam. After the prelims, we prepared for the Studio test, where we were introduced to different types of materials, model making, prototyping, material manipulation & audio/visual tests. The training really helped me to secure my seat at India’s premier institute.

It really feels great as it was like a dream come true. By securing a seat in IIT Guwahati, I surprised myself and others. My preparation method consisted mainly of solving sample question papers which helped me at improving my speed to solve questions. For competitive exams with objective type questions, speed determines success. afdindia helped me in chasing my dreams by putting me with a group of design aspirants, for several months. This helped me familiarise with many kinds of people interests with varied interests and from different traditions. Each of my batch mates was special in their own ways. By doing so, we were able to gain valuable exposure.

IIT Bombay had always been a dream for me. I never actually thought I could make it be one among the top 30 in the country. I wouldn’t be here without the infinite motivation that my mother and a few friends offered me. afdindia gave me exposure to know what to expect out there. I learned the basic requirements and how to develop them to achieve my goal. For UCEED, I worked out every question afdindia gave me and did some research on the internet too. afdindia sculptured me, in every way required to be able to fit in. They prepared me for the exam. They encouraged me at every stage and pin-pointed what exactly I had to improve. I wouldn’t be here without afdindia and I would forever be indebted to them.

I believe that things worth having are worth waiting for. In order to be successful, you will have to find your passion first, follow it, believe in yourself, work hard and then achieve your goals. I would say there is no shortcut for success, and we need to work hard to get what we want. I am currently pursing my studies at NIFT, New Delhi. I joined the one-year course at afdindia after completing my 12th grade. afdindia helped me with keeping myself updated on what is happening in and around the design world through their comprehensive curriculum. The faculties helped me correct my mistakes and they also appreciated my positive sides and helped in motivating myself. And the fruit of my hard work is sweet.
